For half of this week my Achilles hurt, and then one of my besties, Maggie, massaged out my calf, and my Achilles felt a lot better! I had a ton of knots. Oh, and the fact that I started taking Tylenol as an anti-inflammatory and ice twice a day is also helping! While massaging out my calf we found a weird bump next to my shin, but it turned out to be a boring cyst or weird vein growth. Anyway, I am going to try to take more days off in between runs to help my Achilles out. I am 99.9% sure this means that I won’t be running today.
Saturday the 9th at the Wetlands (dirt) my Achilles hurt, but it wasn’t unbearable.
On one of my healthy kicks I bought some multi-vitamins to improve my health. Since I’m not really a pill taking person, I used a few and the rest just ended up in the trash when they expired. Half of Americans take some type of supplement, and most of them do not need to. Yes, if you are pregnant or lose to much iron during your period, please take some supplements! Or, if your doctor prescribes supplements for an existing problem (such as not meeting nutrient needs from food, etc.) you should take them. Here are some rules to apply to supplement intake unless otherwise recommended by your doctor: Continue reading →
I have been wanting to make a trip up to Santa Barbara since 2008. Fortunately, on Sunday I finally got to visit with one of my besties, Aiko. I have had a number of friends go to school there and I was also considering going there too (too expensive though, ya know how it goes). Anyway, it did not disappoint!
One of my friends who went to school there gave us a great list of things to do.
Stuffed bell peppers are a good option for a healthy, but still tasty meal! I like to make them as simple as possible. When I was on a meal plan during college (for running) these were always one staple that I could eat out of the slightly more unhealthy meals my mom liked to cook. The recipe below is courtesy of my Mom. Continue reading →
I went to BJ’s Restaurant the other day and had their new S’more pizookie and it was so so so good! It was a chocolate cookie with peanut butter on top and roasted marshmallows. They put two big scoops of ice cream on top of all of that goodness as well. My boyfriend and I just died it was so good. I hadn’t had a pizookie in a while and I am so glad I spent the extra money on it. I used that pizookie to inspire my brownie pie that I referenced in my last Fitness Friday post! Please note that I did over-brown my marshmallows so I adjusted the time for y’all, but I promise they were not black in real life!Ingredients: Continue reading →
I was supposed to do a 90 minute run on Saturday, but only got in a 70 minute run. I stopped at least 3 or 4 times during that 70 minutes to stretch out my calves because my Achilles was irritated. I took off Sunday and Monday in hopes that it would start feeling better. From Saturday on, I iced my Achilles with an ice pack every day and began stretching out my calf and Achilles at least once a day from Tuesday on. As you can see below, I didn’t get to run a lot this week. I ended up mixing together my running and strength workouts below because the running workouts were few and far between.
When I was on vacation in Big Bear my dad asked me if I wanted to get some Gatorade for after my runs. I didn’t need any though, because I was only working out for about an hour a day. Sports drinks companies have most people believing that everyone who plays a soccer/basketball game, goes for a run, or lifts weights needs to drink their sports drinks to recuperate and replace the lost electrolytes. Sports drinks aren’t necessary for a lot of us though: Continue reading →
My parents had a ton of gift cards so we finally made it to Lucille’s for dinner! Boy was I excited! They have really good rolls with apple butter, but let’s not kid ourselves, I like the rolls almost everywhere. I took some pics so you can savor the meal with me..
This was my meal Continue reading →
Lately I’ve been kind of a downer. I am slightly afraid to post this because I don’t want to sound like a whiner, but I thought it might help others in my situation. I am headed into my second year of teaching and I will admit that the transition between student and full time working adult has been a tough one. Half of my friends are still students or are working part time jobs, which makes the transition even harder because I tend to compare myself to them. Anyway, I’ve been pretty unhappy and really unsure about how to change how I feel. I started researching articles about happiness and I’ve found that happiness is contingent upon several factors. My old coworker made chicken salad years ago and I loved it! I asked her for the ingredients and then never made it. I finally couldn’t stand it and broke down and made the recipe. It contains no mayonnaise so be prepared for that! She only gave me a list of ingredients, and I didn’t measure my ingredients so you’ve gotta wing it a bit! All serving sizes are rough estimates of what I used.
