It’s another El Nino year in California so I decided to take advantage of the rainy weather by taking a trip to the poppy fields in Walker Canyon. Fortunately, I corralled two of my besties and convinced them to come with me 🙂
We arrived at 8:30am on a Sunday and there were already around 50 car loads of people there. There are two hillsides you can climb, one on the right and one on the left. We decided to hike up the trail on the right because there were less cars nearby and less people. If you want to avoid people, definitely go on a weekday.
If you want to reach the flatter areas, be prepared to walk up some fairly steep hills. The park ranger was also there telling people to keep off of the flowers on the lower region of the trail in attempt to preserve the flowers.
We hiked about 3.7 miles in total and could have gone about 1 more mile to reach the true “fields” that most people rave about. Unfortunately, I have a heel injury so going further wasn’t really an option for me.
Being surrounded by so many flowers was magical. The hills were painted in oranges, yellows, and purples. I’m so grateful for these opportunities to explore my state and I hope some of you get to come explore the super bloom too!
